first leaf was established in 2004 by Derek Lewis, when he returned to live and work in his home village in North Pembrokeshire.

After working for 25 years in agricultural research, Derek decided to develop a business growing microleaves (extremely small leaves of herbs and salads) peashoots and edible flowers used at that time throughout the USA in upmarket restaurants, but unheard of in the UK. The company takes it’s name from the first true leaves produced by a seedling plant.

Since the company started, we have supplied fresh produce directly to local restaurants and hotels in Pembrokeshire, every week, throughout the season.

Responsible growing It is important to us that we practice responsible growing. All our produce is grown in an environmentally friendly way in protected conditions. We do not use pesticides or excessive energy.

We have acheived Green Dragon Level 2 for our environmental management of the company.
